The event will be held on Thursday, October 10 from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. at The Riverhouse Convention Center located at 3075 N. Highway 97 (Access from Mt. Washington Dr.). During this one-hour free event, Executive Director Tim Rusk and notable speakers will share the amazing results MountainStar is achieving with traumatized young children through powerful, cost-effective interventions that change lives, heal relationships, and launch babies, toddlers and their parents on a new trajectory. Nationally accredited, MountainStar provides crisis intervention and a therapeutic classroom for 300 babies and young children from 6-weeks to 3-years-old. These children come from families with multiple risk factors for child abuse and neglect, including low income, homelessness, mental health issues, domestic violence, and substance abuse. Children at this critical age represent 48% of the victims of child abuse and are at a stage in their development when it is essential to have attached and attentive caretakers. Relief Nurseries have documented success in reducing the risk of abuse and neglect by 70% within the first 6 months of a child’s enrollment. They help to improve family functioning and self-sufficiency and reduce foster care utilization. For more information, please visit www.mountainstarfamily.org.
